DIY Cambridge Bag Kit – Sew Your Own Retro Crossbody Bag

I. Understanding of Material Components

We are making a small - sized Cambridge bag this time. The material used is double - sided leather. The
side with larger texture serves as the front (the outer surface of the bag), while the side with smaller
texture is the back (the inner lining of the bag). It is crucial to distinguish between the front and back sides
throughout the sewing process. Additionally, please prepare quick - drying glue or a lighter on your own.

II. Threading Method

We are making a small - sized Cambridge bag this time. The material used is double - sided leather. The

texture is the back (the inner lining of the bag). It is crucial to distinguish between the front and back sides
throughout the sewing process. Additionally, please prepare quick - drying glue or a lighter on your own.

Use the double - needle sewing method:

1. Measure an appropriate length of thread;
2. Thread a sewing needle at each end of the thread.

III. Sewing of Small Accessories

1. Thread Preparation

Locate the No. 9 accessory (the sewing method is the same for both accessories). Measure the thread to
be 6 times the length of the accessory, and leave an additional 4 cm.

2. Threading the Needles

Thread one needle at each end of the measured thread.

3. Sewing and Securing the Thread

1. Combine the No. 9 and No. 11 accessories, and align the two ends of the No. 9 accessory;
2. Pass one of the needles from the bottom of the lower - left hole to the top, ensuring there is one
needle on both the upper and lower sides of the leather. Then, pull the threads on both ends to the
same length;
3. Pass the lower needle through the second hole from the bottom, and the upper needle through the
same second hole from the top. (Note: When the upper needle passes through from the bottom, the
needle - drop should be on the left side of the thread to avoid piercing the thread, thus ensuring a
more aesthetically pleasing stitch). Pull the thread tight;
4. Repeat the above steps until reaching the end, then backstitch twice so that both needles are at the
bottom;
5. Cut off the excess thread, leaving a 2 - mm long thread end;
6. Repeat the same operation for another set of No. 9 and No. 11 accessories.

4. Fixing the Thread Ends
Dip a toothpick into a small amount of glue and apply it to the thread ends multiple times (to prevent the
glue from dripping onto the leather surface), then press the threads flat. Alternatively, lightly burn the
thread ends with a lighter and then press them flat.

IV. Snap stitching

1. Preparation

Locate Leather Piece No. 1 and Leather Piece No. 10, and measure the thread to be 6 times the length
of Leather Piece No. 10.

2. Sewing Operation

Sew the two Leather Piece No. 10 to the corresponding positions on Leather Piece No. 1 respectively,
paying attention to distinguishing the front and back sides of the leather.

V. Sewing of the Handle Part

1. Locate Leather Piece No. 6, measure the thread to be 9 times its length, and start sewing from the
specified hole position;
2. After sewing to the hole position at the other end, combine and sew it with Leather Piece No. 1. Sew
until returning to the starting point, and then secure the needle using the previously described
method;
3. Take 2 sets of Part No. 13 and tighten them with a screwdriver for fixation.

VI. Sewing of the Outer Pocket

1. Locate Part No. 5 and measure 2 threads, each 4 times the length of Part No. 5;
2. Take one of the threads and thread a needle at each end;
3. Align the first hole of Leather Piece No. 5 with the second hole of Leather Piece No. 2, and start
sewing from the first hole of Leather Piece No. 5;
4. When sewing to the corner, make sure to pull the thread tight to prevent loosening;
5. Locate Part No. 7 and measure 2 threads, each 6 times its length, then sew them to the
corresponding holes on Leather Piece No. 3;
6. Sew Leather Piece No. 3 and Leather Piece No. 5 together .

VII. Sewing of the Hook Part

1. Locate Part No. 9 and measure the thread to be 8 times its length;
2. Pass Part No. 9 through Part No. 12, fold it in half, and then sew it to the corresponding hole position
on Part No. 4.

VIII. Sewing of the Inner Pocket

1. Measure the thread to be 6 times the length of Part No. 9 and cut 2 pieces;
2. Align the inner sides of Part No. 9 and Part No. 2, and start sewing from the first hole position. The
finishing method is the same as before;
3. Combine the sewn part with Part No. 1. (The first hole of Part No. 9 corresponds to the second hole
of the same position on Part No. 1, which is the same as the sewing method for the outer pocket).

IX. Installation of the Shoulder

Thread one end of the shoulder strap into the sewn Part No. 10 and fix it with Part No. 13.
